Letter : Charlestown, S.C., to Peter Porcher, [Richmond, Surrey], 1783 June 14.

Mazyck's letter to his "dear nephew" primarily concerns Porcher's father, a Loyalist whose estate was in danger of being confiscated by the state. Mazyck discusses the situation of other Loyalists, the Confiscation Act, and a temporary law which allowed "about seventy persons ... to be bailed and ... return to their estates." Letter also relates news about the Mazyck family and marriages and deaths in the Porcher family. Letter is signed "S. Mazyck."

The writer of this letter is probably Stephen Mazyck (d. 1808), who was an uncle of Peter Porcher (1764-1807), the son of Philip Porcher (1730-1800) and Mary Mazyck (1734-1785). Stephen Mazyck was a resident of Goose Creek (Berkeley County, South Carolina). The son of Isaac Mazyck and Jeane Marie de St. Julien, he was commissioned as a first lieutenant in the 2nd South Carolina Regiment of the Continental Army and served until the end of the war.
